Last weekend, A New Leaf Gallery at Sonoma’s Cornerstone Complex and partner gallery Sculpturesite in San Francisco held their Cirque de Sculpture Living Sculpture Contest. Students from local arts schools were invited to create and display themselves as sculpture and attendees voted for their favorites, resulting in 6 finalists (3 from each event). The six finalists got to have their pictures and a video posted online and anyone can go view and vote for them this week at www.sculpturesite.com.

Partners Brigitte Micmaker and John Denning own and operate the two galleries, which exclusively offer sculpture. The Living Sculpture Contest was held in conjunction with 20th Anniversary celebrations at both gallery locations and came about as an effort to express their love of art, whimsy, and fun. They reached out to local art schools to offer students a chance to exhibit their creativity and compete for the prize. Cash prizes range from $100-500.

Local Sonoma resident, 8 year old Kaden Lewis, is the youngest finalist and delivers a poignant idea with “A Colorful Day.” Completely white, from head to toe and nose to fingertips, Kaden sits on a white bicycle, walks a white dog, and blows a big, white bubblegum bubble. He stated that his sculpture is also in mind of children who have been injured or killed by automobiles while riding bicycles.

View all six finalists here and vote for your favorite! Voting closes at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 19.

A New Leaf Gallery at Cornerstone is world class! I tell everyone it is a Sonoma destination not to be missed. Also, check out the sculpture contest, I’d say the 8 year old boy deserves to win!
