Santa Rosa Junior College’s Summer Repertory Theatre has a fine medley of plays on offer this season. One of only a few American companies still taking on the challenge of true repertory theater, SRT will be performing five plays during their seven week season, June 16 – August 7.
Forever Plaid
In this play by Stuart Ross, the promising future of a ’50s boy band is cut short by a freak accident just before their first real gig. Watch as Sparky, Smudge, Jinx, and Frankie, miraculously get to perform the show that never was, with hit songs like Three Coins in a Fountain, Day-O, and Love is a Many Splendored Thing.
Peter Pan
Here’s a chance to acquaint your kids with the lovable characters of J.M. Barrie’s classic story. Travel to Neverland with Peter and the Darling children and experience the magic once again. Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, and the notorious tick-tocking crocodile await you.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
William Finn’s musical is about six quirky adolescents competing in their school Bee. Volunteers from the audience will get to join them, as they learn that winning isn’t everything. With mature language and themes, this one is recommended for 12 years and older.
The Full Monty
Terrence McNally’s and David Yazbeck’s musical about unemployed steelworkers and their gutsy plan to make a bit of quick money is back at SRT by popular demand. Seeing how much their wives like watching male strippers, the men decide to try it themselves. While preparing for their striptease show, they find renewed self-respect, strength in friendship, and lots of fun.
Dangerous Liaisons (with Vampires)
In this new adaptation by SRT’s Artistic Director, James Newman, the characters from the 1782 novel are imagined as immortals. Watch as the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Mertueil play their treacherous, seductive games over centuries.
