Storytime has become a big event for families with young children at the Windsor Public Library at 9291 Old Redwood Highway off the Town Green.
As part of the county’s 2010 Summer Reading Club “Make a Splash, Read!” event, the library hosts storytime sessions every Tuesday and Wednesday. The Tuesday sessions are geared toward older kids (ages 5 and up), and include singing or arts & crafts. The Wednesday sessions are crafted for babies and preschoolers (and are therefore shorter in length).
Yours truly took the 13-month-old to a recent “Baby Time” session (for children ages 0 to 2). Tykes and their parents (dads, be warned: the crowd was mostly mommas) sat in a circle on a colorful mat while a librarian read various children books aloud.
At one point, the librarian broke out into hushed song. Some of the babies clapped their hands.
We lingered for a bit and stayed for the first few minutes of “Preschool Storytime,” a similar ritual geared for slightly older kids. Then the baby got cranky.
From now until July 28, Baby Time is every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., and Preschool Storytime follows at 11:30 a.m. The Tuesday events generally are held at 2 p.m. (though the event on July 13 stretches from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.).
