Temecula, in Southern California, has been called “LA’s wine country”, as it is about 80 miles from Los Angeles, thus making it closer to the average Angeleno’s house than their place of employment.
Unlike Temecula and LA, Sonoma County and San Francisco are separated by a mere thirty miles. From the Golden Gate Bridge to the San Antonio Creek, it is 29.8 miles. That means denizens of “The City” can be at a winery faster than they can get cross-town on the 30 Geary.
And savvy Sonoma stayers know to get off the main highway and take the side roads. Quick routes include jumping off in Novato to get to 37 and hit the Sonoma Valley and Carneros, or to split off in Petaluma and hitting west Sonoma County to the Russian River and points north.
And whereas neighboring Napa Valley has 2 main roads heading north and south, Sonoma County is a bit larger with small country roads connecting small valleys. On some roads drivers are lucky to see more than a handful of drivers (Skaggs Springs, Coleman Valley, and a few secret ones we drive on starry nights to act like teenagers…)

And if you take the blimp to So-Co from SF, instead of driving, it’s even better!
