One of the best ways to meet fellow “family” (and allies) around Sonoma is to get involved with one of the county’s GLBT social organizations – there are several, they’re generally very open to both residents and visitors to the region, and they’re a wonderful way to meet like-minded souls and gather travel advice about the region. An excellent group for networking and socializing, Sonoma GayDar (check out their Facebook page) invites the region’s GLBT community (and visitors) to gather at a different venue once per month. Sometimes it’s a restaurant or bar, other times it’s a winery or some other area business. These are highly informal, relaxed get-together. There’s no need to sign up or RSVP – just show your face (your responsible for purchasing your own food or drink).
The next GayDar event takes place at southern Sonoma County’s beautiful Nicholson Ranch Winery, a wonderful spot both for its views and the chance to taste stellar Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Syrah – they also produce a very good olive oil. The Sonoma GayDar event takes place Sunday, February 21, from 4 until 6:30 pm.
