Sonoma County Theater productions in April and May

Come to Sonoma County for the sights, the wine, the weather, what have you, and don’t forget to indulge your cultural side, too.  We don’t want you to miss out on some of the theatrical productions!

Scene from Tartuffe running April 9 - May 2 at 6th Street Playhouse..

From April 9 through May 2, Santa Rosa’s 6th Street Playhouse offers Moliere’s timeless comedy, Tartuffe.  First performed in 1664, this scandalous, satirical French classic has a striking relevance today with its portrayal of social hypocrisy.  Tartuffe is a con man who, under the guise of a holy man, worms his way into the home and lives of a wealthy family.  Who will prevail?

The Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma presents another case of hidden identity with Is He Dead? by Mark Twain, running through April 17.  Millet, a struggling artist in 19th century Paris takes the advice of his friends and fakes his death in hopes that his art will actually sell.  Millet’s reappearance as an imaginary twin sister and other hilarious plots hatched by the artists make for a lot of laughs.

A modern offering comes from the Sonoma County Repertory Theater in Sebastopol, which stages Dead Man’s Cell Phone, through April 18.  In this new comedy by Sarah Ruhl, a woman in a café answers a stranger’s ringing cell phone and becomes embroiled in the man’s complicated life.  This production leans more on the light side of a fairly dark script, so it’s a fun show full of quirky characters.

For a bit of fun, you could take in an old favorite.  Santa Rosa Junior College Theatre Arts presents Grease from April 23 through May 2.  The bad boy gets good girl love story lives on with those unforgettable songs.
