Wine Country Baseball, the Sonoma County baseball league that features local, amateur sluggers and golden glovers playing America’s past-time in God’s own country, has signed a new commissioner.
The new commissioner, who is not named Bud Selig, was cited in a press release as, “legendary current head of baseball at Sonoma State University, John Goelz.”

Not Bud Selig. Phew.
Wine Country Baseball will begin their second season after the college and high-school leagues are over, in the summer.
Also changing will be the split of the league in two: one league will be for summer collegiate league a la the Cape Cod League (open only to college-eligible players), and the second will be the Wine Country Old Fashioned Baseball League, which is a community league and open to all.*
Wine Country Baseball is the brainchild and passion of Sonoma County vintner Howard Leonhardt of Leonhardt Vineyards.
The teams for the Old Fashioned Baseball League for 2012 will be:
Cloverdale Bandits
Healdsburg Owls
Windsor Wonders
Santa Rosa Gnats
Sebastopol Apples
Rohnert Park Dragons
Petaluma Piratas
Sonoma Grape Crushers
St. Helena Frost Angels
Yountville Robins
Oakville Aces
Napa Knights

* Open to all? Oh yes – including this guy, who just wanted to be “the best that ever was.”
