Not true.
Giada de Laurentis, she of the luscious tomatoes, shared personal space with me on Sunday.
At the Sonoma County Airport, no less.
Here’s the set-up:
It’s 90 degrees. I’m waiting for a guy from a Seattle to arrive. (Full disclosure- he was actually a Canadian, coming in from Vancouver. Yup- we’re international…) As I stand in the wine country sunshine, I notice the woman entering the security line looks vaguely familiar. Also short.
A woman next to me pokes her husband – I overhear that she think’s “that is her!”
I ask- she confirms- that is Giada de Laurentis, star of food shows for which I am not the target demographic.
Before I can get my camera phone out for a twitpic, she is gone, entered into the cavernous building that houses the security checkpoint at the airport. She was headed to LA on Horizon Air.
While I curse, the Canadian walks up, which is a really bad way to greet a person from Up North. They take it personally. (BTW- funny video on “You May Be a Canadian..)
What did you do Giada? Were you scoping out restaurants? Buying your tickets to the heirloom tomato festival? Did you go salumi-tasting? Do tell!

13th Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival - Please Come Giada!
So that’s my brush with fame.
Wait breathlessly for my next tale of encounters with fame in Wine Country: the time I met Tom Cruise in the bathroom.

Huh, didn’t hear any reports of sitings but guess that she wasn’t on my radar either.
I can tell you that I didn’t see her at the Santa Rosa farmer’s market, even though it was a hoppin’ day.
Maybe she just came for lunch or to taste some great Sonoma County wines.
Jill- I know – I thought she was going to call. I bet I missed the call. Will check my caller ID and get back to you.
I saw her once at Cyrus about two years ago when she filmed her segment on Sonoma County food (happily Zin made it on the show). I will keep my ears open to see what she was doing in our neck of the woods!
I was not aware of her being here either… but this picture of her with the luscious tomatoes is a bit disturbing! It’s kind of Halloween-ish! Maybe grapes would have been a better choice? ;-)
