March over to Sebastopol’s new Woodruff marché

Gourmet grocery shoppers have barely caught their collective breaths since the fabulous opening of the fabulous Fresh in Santa Rosa, when along comes another fabulous market:

Woodruff’s Artisan Foods & Café has debuted in Sebastopol. Taking a cue from the marché concepts so popular in Europe, this lovely place combines an upscale grocery with a café, deli and wine store.

It’s an elaborate undertaking for owner David Woodruff, who took on a culinary degree from Santa Rosa Junior College after he was looking for a career change from the automotive industry. Joining him in the endeavor are chef Luz Quiroz (who put in time as

Marcella Cafe at Woodruffs in Sebastopol.

private chef for Rush Limbaugh), and Woodruff’s fiancée, Marcella, who is helping out in the market’s Cafe Marcella.

The place brims with all kinds of goodness, and the selections and menus change frequently, so if you’ve got your heart set on something particular, check the store’s Facebook page.

A recent Sunday brunch, for example, featured ragu Bolognese, Latin American arepas, and French toast soufflé with house baked blueberry scones, blood orange mimosas, beer and wine.

Details: Woodruff’s Artisan Foods and Cafe Marcella, 966 Gravenstein Hwy S., Sebastopol, 707-829-2141.
