Well, I can stop packing up my house. I didn’t win the HGTV Dream Home, located in Sonoma. A woman in Florida did.
Darn. I spent a full day cleaning my house, weeding the front lawn and, basically, getting ready for my television appearance when they “surprised” me with the keys to my new home.
After watching the giveaway show and realizing they weren’t coming, my only thought was, “I put on lipstick for this?”
The good news is I still live in Sonoma, only four miles from the Dream House. And, while I didn’t get a new home out of it, I still enjoy the amazing Sonoma County lifestyle.
I have several farmers markets, seasonal and year round, available to me. After a summer of grilled fresh corn on the cob, I can’t go back to frozen kernels.

A thriving entertainment scene throughout the county offers unlimited possibilities to go out and experience live music. You can find anything from rock to bluegrass, country to Celtic. Almost every weekend there’s something playing that will fit the most finicky musical tastes.
Mild weather means being outdoors. Vineyard hikes, more than 40 state and regional parks, walking and bike paths offer many opportunities to discover why people flock here on vacation.
