Eat a Vegan Feast While Watching Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower at Osmosis Spa this Thursday

Vegan feast, meteor shower, and foot baths on tap at Osmosis this Thursday.

Soaking in a spa after a soothing massage is good for your relaxation. A vegan meal, prepared by a French chef with ingredients from his own organic garden, is good for your health. Enjoying them together, as you can at the vegan feast at Osmosis Spa this Thursday, is good for your soul.

In the “Gathering at Osmosis,” guests can enjoy a taste of the Japanese-inspired spa and meditation garden in Freestone, to enjoy a meal based on locally-grown vegetables while dangling their feet in soothing waters, drinking organic wines, and watching the Eta Aquarid meteor shower, bright in the sky far from city lights.

Does life get much better?

The idea is to showcase what is thought to be the first cedar enzyme bath in America. Osmosis founder Michael Stusser opened Osmosis in 1985, after a time studying traditional landscape gardening and Zen teachings in Japan turned him on to the tradition. Today, the spa features six tubs, its own Zen meditation garden, and a menu of massages including outdoor treatments in private pagodas alongside Salmon Creek.

For the Thursday evening event, guests can nibble on vegan fare prepared by French Garden executive chef Patrick Quillec, featuring produce freshly harvested from the restaurant’s organic farm in Sebastopol and paired with vegan wines from Healdsburg’s Thumbprint Cellars.

Offering some insight into the goodness of eating and drinking this way is Sonoma “Veggie Queen” Jill Nussinow, offering highlight from her up-coming book, “The New Fast Food: The Veggie Queen Pressure Cooks Whole Food Meals in Minutes.”

Those wanting a fuller immersion into the spa can do so, literally, with special 15- to 45-minute mini-treatments available.

That Eta Aquarid meteor shower, by the way, is the first of two showers that occur each year as a result of Earth passing through dust released by Halley’s Comet. Observers in the Northern Hemisphere are likely to see about 10 meteors every hour.

Reservations are required for the 6 to 9:30 p.m. gathering. The $20 ticket includes food, drinks, cedar-enzyme foot baths, and meteor viewing in the meditation garden.
