Earth Day/Week/Month 2009!

Sonoma seems to celebrate Earth Day the way I celebrate my birthday: over as many days possible.  Earth ‘Day’ events have already begun and continue through the end of April.

As someone who spent the last four years in the not-so-eco-conscious South, I am excited for what Sonoma County has in store. Bring on the crunchiness!

Green Valley Earth Day Celebration: April 19th, 11am-2pm. Iron Horse Vineyards, Dutton-Goldfield Winery, Balleto Vineyards, Hartford Family Winery, and Deloach Vineyards will be offering no charge wine tasting and food pairings, eco art and fashion shows, walking tours, and meet and greet with winegrowers.

Earth, Wind & Fire Dinner: April 19th, 2pm. The Carneros Bistro & Wine Bar in Sonoma is serving a themed dinner featuring dueling winemakers Jeff Stewart of Buena Vista Carneros and Darrin Procsal of Atlas Peak Winery and chef Janine Falvo.

Windsor Earth Day on the Green: April 19th, 11am-2pm. A free event featuring games, vendors, foods, crafts, live music, and more family friendly activities and entertainment.

Wildflower Hike at Tolay Creek Ranch: April 22, 5:30-7:30pm. An Earth Day celebration actually on Earth Day! Sonoma Land Trust staff will lead a short hike through a blooming serpentine wildflower field.

Benziger Winery Biodynamic Discovery Trail Opening: April 22, 10am and 2pm. The Director of Sustainability and Gardens, Colby Eierman, will offer two complimentary hour-long Earth Day classes for aspiring green thumbs. Space is limited.
