Dan Akroyd – Blues Brother, Winemaker, Bass-O-Matic Pitchman, Sonoma Fan

Dan Akroyd’s latest project is wine made with Sonoma County grapes from the Russian River Valley. His cabernet and chardonnay comes from the help of the good folks over at DeLoach Vineyards.

Akroyd’s Sonoma wine will sell for about $20 a bottle when released, which dovetails nicely with his website’s statement that it is “made from 100% snob-free grapes.” Having met many a Sonoma County winegrape grower, I can vouch for the truth in that.

Per the Steve Berger story:

“He could have gone to Napa,” said John-Charles Boisset, owner of De Loach, but noted that the style of wine he wanted to make suited the soils and climate of Sonoma a lot better.

That style means with great fruit and balance and lower-then-popular alcohols.

Quiz time- what other celebs are making wine in Sonoma County? Winner wins something delightful…
