Inside Sonoma knows two things about November in Northern California: our football teams are going to be firmly in the tank, and so will fresh, luscious Dungeness Crab.
Often tied to San Francisco and Fisherman’s Wharf, the crab is also found along the 50-some miles of Sonoma coastline, and Bodega Bay is one of the best places to get fresh crab for home or in a restaurant.
While I won’t start a flame war detailing where the best places are to get them (I leave that for the comments section, naturally) I did some quick calls and found that crab may or may not be found in the following spots:
- Tides Wharf Restaurant, Bodega Bay
- Rivers End, Jenner
- Duck Club, Bodega Bay
- Spud Point Crab Company (thanks Karen! see below for comment)
If you want to get some crab to bring home, you can pick some up either on the back of the boats in the Bodega Bay harbor, or the Santa Rosa farmers market on Saturdays.
Where else can you get some crab in Sonoma County? Do tell…

The best place for fresh crab sandwiches is Spud Point Crab Co. You can also buy crab there to take home and eat later. They will even crack the crab for free! Their chowder is off the hook as well.
