Art lovers get ready, there are some amazing self-guided studio tours coming up in Sonoma County. Mingle with the artists, learn about their methods, and soak up the atmosphere of the place the art was created.
SOFA Artwalk

With over 28 artists’ studios in one block, this is one chance to see a huge amount of art in one spot. Park the car for the day and go on foot.
SOFA, Santa Rosa’s South A Street Arts District, is the most densely populated artist neighborhood you’ll find with a wealth of mediums including painting, photography, glass, sculpture, and more. SOFA has four collective events each year and this first annual Artwalk is definitely not one to be missed if you’re interested in art.
With an entire weekend of open studios, there is plenty of time for leisurely art viewing and artist mingling. Get your morning started with a brew from Atlas Coffee or a treat from Bliss Bakery.
The SOFA neighborhood is a few minutes’ walk from downtown Santa Rosa’s plethora of eateries and around the corner from Juilliard Park if you fancy a picnic. Catalogs with studio maps are available at the Gallery of Sea and Heaven and other local businesses.

Art by the Sea presents the first ever Sea Ranch Art Tour, which showcases 18 specially selected artists. The Sea Ranch itself is an architectural gem, with its subtle style designed to meld into the rugged coastline scenery.

Also along the Northern Sonoma County coast over the same dates, the 19th Annual Studio Discovery Tour covers a 50-mile stretch of Highway 1, on up into Mendocino County.
The artists, spreading from Sea Ranch north, will be sharing their vision and may even be demonstrating their techniques. You’re sure to find your heart’s desire in the range of genres, including ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry, painting, sculpture, and woodworking. Catalogs detailing each artist and providing a map and directions to the studios are available on the Sonoma side at the Sea Ranch Lodge and Gualala Arts Center.

The Bennett Ridge enclave of artists will open their studios for the 12th Annual Art on the Ridge studio tour. Thirteen artists will participate in this year’s event, which offers the chance to meet the artists and see works of a variety of mediums. Bennett Ridge is located on beautiful Sonoma County backroads, just a few minutes outside of Santa Rosa.

ARTtrails Open Studios is Sonoma County’s largest visible arts event and, in its 26th year, has become a highly anticipated fall tradition. Artists throughout the county will have their doors open to share their works.
Choose your route through Sonoma County with a choice of 134 open studios. The preview exhibit details have yet to be released for 2011, but they are usually held at ArtSpace 404 in Santa Rosa and in Graton Gallery for about two weeks preceding the tour. From September, catalogs can be ordered or viewed online, so you can create your itinerary.
