A stroll through the magnificent old growth redwoods at Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve is always a stunning, must-do in Sonoma County. This Saturday, July 17, from 1 to 5 p.m., the Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods are presenting a step beyond with a Gourmet Hike and Art among the giants. While walking along the trails, you can enjoy appetizers from local chefs, taste wine, listen to live music and watch art demonstrations. Then finish off with an art exhibition and sale in the historic Redwood Forest Theater.
The Gourmet Hike and Art starts in the Group Picnic Area with champagne and an appetizer, while listening to bluegrass by The Mighty Chiplings and watching artists at work. Meander down the Pioneer Trail to mingle with more artists, savor more appetizers, taste wine, hear Celtic and Americana tunes by the local band Happenstance, and get a little education from one of the park’s docents. The hike concludes at the Redwood Forest Theater, where you can get a final appetizer with paired wine, and dessert with coffee or tea, while viewing the art exhibition and listening to music by Jim Ocean and Edgehog.
The entire Hike and Art is $35 per person or $65 for two people. There is also an option to partake only in the Art and Dessert for $10 per person, where you can head straight to the Redwood Forest Theater to have dessert with coffee or tea. Regular day-use parking fees apply for the park, $8 per car. From River Road in Guerneville, travel 2 miles north on Armstrong Woods Road to reach the park entrance.
What a way to spend a warm, summer afternoon in the cool shade of the redwoods.
