A Single Night in Russian River Valley

Next Month, the Russian River Valley Winegrowers’ Millennial Council will be throwing our first event, Single Night – a single night, single vineyards, Russian River Valley’s next generation.

First and foremost, Single Night is not just an event for single people as the name may suggest…  It is all about showcasing the best that the Russian River Valley has to offer; including single vineyard wines, single bites of food from local food producers, all on a single night in June.

Single Night will take place June 5th, 2010 at C. Donatiello Winery at 4035 Westside Road in Healdsburg from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

To make a great bottle of wine it takes skill and effort from both the grower and winemaker, so Single Night will focus on tasting of single vineyard wines crafted in the spirit of these partnerships.  For each tasting the two will be partnered together to talk about what it takes to make their exclusive wines.

Many of us have heard about other wine related auction lots where men with monocles and women with white gloves bid on bottles of wine older than me for more money than I make in a decade… At least this is how I picture these auction lots in my head…

Well, we at the RRVW Millennial Council decided to take the same concept and twist it around so anyone could enjoy bidding on an auction lot at Single Night.  Vintners will be promoting their own personally hosted Adventure Auction Lots, which will include an element of Adventure in the Russian River Valley.

Plane rides over the vineyards, kayaking and a clam bake on the river, classic Jeep vineyard treks, hot air ballooning, hiking, winery cave tasting, and cycling are just some of what guests will have the option to bid on.

The idea is to join forces with 4 to 8 people and “group bid” on the adventure that appeals to you the most.  The Russian River Valley is best enjoyed as a group and these adventures are once in a lifetime opportunities to see what else the valley has to offer from a behind-the-scenes perspective.

“The days of over the top auction lot pricing is gone. We want to make the Russian River Valley experience within reach” says RRVW marketing director, Lee Hodo. “Bring your friends, pool your cash, and return to enjoy the adventure together.”

Each Adventure Lot is being promoted through online videos which can be found on our YouTube, Facebook or Twitter pages.  We even have some outtake videos for you to laugh at as well…

Single Night will also include a dance party under the stars, where our Emcee, Franco Finn, The Warriors “Hype Man” will play song requests sent in via Twitter, with the hashtag #RRVSingleNight.   A no-host bar of Russian River Valley wines with a focus on wines that retail for $25 and under. Tastings and glasses will be for sale, allowing guests to experiment with wines accessible to their budgets.
